*He directed Jean to answer the phone, then he promptly hung up and directed her out to the concrete patio to make his second attempt at raping her. Was interrupted by the return of Dawn's parents at 10:30 pm.

Victims: "Sheila Singleton" -age 33
Two sons in the home
Physical Description:
Small penis: 3-4 inches, but never fully erect

Knife from victim's kitchen

Torn pieces of towels
*The attacker sobbed at one point: "I hate you, Bonny (mommy?). I hate you, I hate you, I hate you." She also noted his stutter.
*Herringbone tennis shoe impression in the mud outside the kitchen window and also on the kitchen counter.
*On July 14, 1978, Lilliana Cervi, a neighbor of Sheila Singleton, called police to report that while Ms. Singleton was vacationing in Europe and Mrs. Cervi's ex-husband was watching the house, he had discovered a knife inside a Velveeta box in Sheila's fridge.

He also sobbed, “It scares my mommy when it's on the news.” He told “Gayle” to tell the police they got it 'mixed up' last time about him saying he would kill two people. Then he made the same threat he had to the previous couple, that if this was on the news tomorrow, he'd kill two people. *The couple had moved into the home only three weeks earlier. The Aim Realty "for sale" sign was still in the yard. *Gayle had received a call from someone with a British accent prior to this attack. #24 – Saturday, October 1, 1977 in Rancho Cordova (95670) at 1:00 am
Victims: “Margarita Lopez” - age 17 was a maid for Six Pence Motel in Sacramento
“Harvey Westcott” - age 20, boyfriend
This was EAR'S return to Sacramento after leaving area
Physical Description:
21-35 years old
5'9”
170 lbs
Blonde hair; Blue eyes
Clothing; Implements Description:
Margarita:
Flashlight and gun .357 Magnum
Knife
Nylon stocking over his face
Dark-knit cap on head
He had bad breath but this body order was even worse, she said it seem to be coming from every pore.
Harvey:
Flashlight in left hand, revolver in right
Nylon stocking over his head
*Harvey's shotgun had been emptied and the ammunition lined up in a row underneath the bed. The shotgun was found under the couch.
*There was a pit bull in the home that came into the bedroom when the attacker walked away for a few minutes. The dog growled once, but did not bark. The rapist picked up the pit bull and walked out of the room.
*Margarita had moved out of Harvey's duplex 3 weeks before this attack and had only been staying there again for 2 days. The night of the attack the two had argued and he drove her back to her apartment. They talked there for some time and then she finally decided to return to his duplex with him for the night. They returned there at about 11:30 pm. from where the above attack occurred and the water treatment plant this victim's husband worked at.

I missed this one number 24; It is important because the victim after the assault said she hear a car honk twice and then twice again, This is while the EAR was still inside the home. What came next was the door bell was rang 5 times and then whom ever had rang door bell knocked the window: it was at this time she heard two muffled voices outside and thought one to be a woman's voice. After all of theses events the EAR fled out the back slider.
Now do we assume these 2 persons or single person at door is related to EAR and is his warning system or look out? or is it someone thinking there's something wrong going on inside this residence? If it was EAR's look out why the horn honking that will wake up people and may place them on alert and attracting attention to the very vehicle they plan to flee in. This sounds rather clumsy at the 24th victim to me and why didn't EAR just go out front door and get in that car with the door bell ringer?

Attack #1 - June 18, 1976 in Rancho Cordova (95670), approximately 4:00 am.
Victim - "Carey Frank" - 23 years old, an insurance rater for Pacific Bell Telephone. she shared house with father, a retired Air Force Member, who was on a trip to Boston at the time and was due in two days.Physical Description:White Male - 20-25 years oldAbout 5'9"Rapist wasn't a large man; perhaps 165 lbs.Muscular legs with dark hair on themVery small penis*Per Porto's information: Eye color - Hazel; Hair - BrownClothing & Accessories Description:Half-nakedDark T-shirt dark navy blue and pocket on left side.Dirty white or gray mask with two eye holes and a seam down the frontGlovesKnife
He used twine he had brought with him to bind victim, he also used a cloth belt taken from the closet to bind victim's hands over the twine. He asked her if she had any money, that would be a tread he would continue. He used Johnson's baby oil to lubricate his penis. The sexual assault was only missionary position and he did not remove gloves He wandered around house and she heard a paper bag being opened and closed. She received 5 or 6 hang up calls two weeks after the attack. That part was different for other victims. The suspect held knife in left hand. *Victim heard low, whispered voices in another room - including "I told you to shut up!" in a louder whisper. Note: The victim stated he held knife in his left hand and she believed he was left handed however if he had any kind of training or had practiced like I think he dd he would want to keep his gun hand free. I believe this makes him right handed so if he had to reach for his firearm he could. |

The more I read on this guy the more I do not understand how he was not caught.. How did he keep getting away? Why did he have no other arrests that would have had his DNA in the system? I also think not all of his rapes were reported; maybe out of shame or maybe embarrassment but either way I'm sure not all of the victims came forward. I mean fear alone might have kept them from reporting it to the Police, the victims who did report it could not feel safe 40 years later!!! he's still out there, how is that possible? Why is this POS still walking the streets? From what I can gather Law Enforcement is still holding back evidence?  you have to be kidding me; they need to give the public everything they have in the hopes it triggers a memory from someone who can send them in the right direction. 40 Years unsolved is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in my life with so many victims and then you add in the 12 murders. I do not understand why? release names of possible suspects that is another way to get the public to come forward, LE no more secrets it's been too long and it must be solved now!! |

I'm glad you included the Davis attacks , they were different too, I'm surprised he did not continue in Davis with the big student population. He used a stocking for a mask and hit and apartment neither was normal for him. All three of those attacks were off what would become the Highway 113 portion of Davis too.

I share your amazement that he has not been caught, when I tell people the story, I do not live in Sacramento anymore , they can not believe EAR is still out there. It's amazing how many people do not know about this guy and I'm in San Diego; and yet most people here have never heard of him and then when you tell them more of the story they are just beside themselves in disbelief that he was never caught during the rape phase, never mind the murdering portion. I tell them it's the 40th anniversary and it makes it even more unbelievable for them and even more so because they have never heard of him. |
