There were masks and two shotguns found in an abandon car in the city of Folsom with special military or corrections ammo located. I got more information on this incident. it was posted in Shelby's book and I believe it is likely JJD had this car placed in Folsom as a bail out car should everything go bad. I discovered a connection between JJD and a Folsom Prison Correctional Officer which would connect the type of ammo found for the shotguns. . Shelby also stated a second vehicle was also found near the Valiant a black and yellow Ford that also contain handgun and shotgun ammo.

Nick and SammyT, where do you believe the cars used came from? I have been leaning toward the belief they were stolen, used for an incident, repainted and sold.

Nick and SammyT, where do you believe the cars used came from? I have been leaning toward the belief they were stolen, used for an incident, repainted and sold. It's very possible, but I still reckon he bought the cars for cash, used his mechanical skills to get them up to scratch and then had them junked before he was required to register ownership. This would explain the possible junkyard connection discussed by Quester and others. I would guess the bailout car was unregistered, rather than stolen. JJD probably told people he was buying and selling cars as a sideline. I suspect he had many years experience as an amateur mechanic before he actually made it a career. I also think officer Joe knew better than to ever risk having his plates run. Too risky for his to ever be the victim of a traffic stop in a stolen car. IMO the compulsive shoplifter/burglar probably stole tools, car parts and the cash to buy the cars in the first place. He may have even gone a stage further and purchased cars from those with slightly dodgy pasts (I'm thinking of the TOR505 car and its connection to drug dealer Mike Manier). As a cop, JJD could have easily run a background check on the registered owner. Then even if a car was spotted in an incident, he knew that the investigation would soon be led on a wild goose chase towards the previous, convicted criminal owner of the vehicle.

That would make sense too, buying used cars and funding the purchase with money that you maybe burgled from your rape victim’s homes.

I think he kept his 'regular' burglaries separate from his EAR attacks.
He only stole major amounts from victims once or twice, but often left large amounts of cash behind.
IMO leaving cash behind was his way of boasting: 'I'm a prolific, master burglar and can get cash whenever I want'.

I believe JJD shot and killed retired Folsom Prison guard Halley Wing while burglarizing his son's home in El Dorado County in 1986

Could a retired prison guard have given JJD the tip to target the properties of a former colleague? Did yet another burglary-turned-murder scupper JJD's armed robbery plans?

This guard is still living and sure not talking to anyone that I could tell from backgrounding him a few years ago.

I have been connecting with different retired LE groups who meet and talk about the old days this seems to be a huge cache of likely truthful tales and rumur. I can try that route.
