Some questions have come up about the file involving the headbutting incident where jjd was involved in a physical fight with Guy Mazeau at Brown's Hardware Store in Sacramento in 1983. Guy Mazeau headbutted jjd and loosened some teeth and bloodied his face. The recent LA Times article mentions this incident. I have a copy of the file, except for the dental records and medical records which are sealed, and would be happy to answer any questions.
The file shows that jjd was suing for minimally $15,000 but the case stalled as Mr. Mazeau was in France and the court determined that it was jjd's responsibility to pay for Mr. Mazeau's return to the U.S. That never happened. Several high profile Sacramento attorneys became involved in this case at various junctures. At one point, the case went to arbitration. When arbitration didn't work out, it was again placed on the Civil calendar. Then finally on February 15, 1985 a REQUEST FOR DISMISSAL was filed by jjd's attorney's and the case was dismissed. There is nothing in the file to indicate that jjd ever collected anything.

I wonder if Mr. Mazeau received any attention from JJD outside of the suit? Maybe not since he was overseas. JJD had to be fuming over this incident and had to have fought hard not to allow EAR portion of his personality to handle this situation. JJD would have to restrain himself from targetting the family of this man.

Nick, Mr. Mazeau lived in France and was visiting California at the time of the incident. He has since passed away but I believe Alan told me that Mr. Mazeau had a daughter who still resides in France. I've not spoken to the daughter.

Everything about the case is public record. Could the names of the attorney involved be disclosed? Also, still hoping someone could get any info on the particulars of his 1979 shoplifting trial?

Doug, I did speak to the attorney who lives in El Dorado Hills. He is retired now and in his 80s He represented Mr. Mazeau throughout the case. He told me that all of his records from the case had been destroyed and he really didn't recall a whole lot. He did recall that nothing ever came of it and that jjd never collected anything. I know it's been reported otherwise but there is nothing in the record to indicate that anything was ever paid. Regarding the shoplifting case, the Sacramento County Sheriff's report is still in existence. The Sac DA is holding on to it for use in the preliminary hearing. Once the preliminary hearing is over with, it may be become public record as it will not be needed for the trial.

Names of the attorneys involved in this case at various times:
James B. Lawhon - represented Guy Mazeau - had an office on Howe Ave. in Sac. Has since retired. Now in his 80s
Charles W. Luther of Fair Oaks - now deceased - represented jjd but requested another law firm to assist
Law firm of Moore, Crawford, Stefanki & Block in Sacramento - jjd
Kevin T. Cauley at Moore, Crawford, Stefanki & Block - jjd
Edward T. Clifford at Greve, Clifford, Diepenbrock & Paras was disqualified as arbitrator due to conflict of interest.
Lawrence Hensley at Moore, Crawford, Stefanki & Block - jjd
Steven Block at Moore, Crawford, Stefanki & Block - jjd
All of the above attorneys were involved with the case at one point or another between June 10, 1983 when the case was filed and February 15, 1985 when Lawrence Hensley filed the Request For Dismissal. Several are still active attorneys in Sacramento.

Found it - 4819 Auburn Blvd . Which is interesting, about a quarter of a mile down Auburn is the Mccdonald’s where Huddle described the time where Deangelo pulled out the firearm during the road rage incident in his book . Deangelo seemed to get into a lot of altercations in that small area .

That sounds about right. There are a lot of lights and intersections in that part of town.
