Christopher Evans Hubbart, Southern California in 1972 had a serial rapist that would be come known as the "pillowcase Rapist" (yes, this moniker is used a lot more than it should be for many different offenders) when he was caught it was learned he was from Claremont, California. Hubbart was a 21 year old furniture worker and his crime series were in Glendora and Hacienda Heights, in Rowland Heights and Pomona.
Los Angles times reported "He was targeting women in their 20s, slipping into their homes and — in what became his signature — pulling a pillowcase over their heads.
"
'One victim said the attacker threatened to kill her son. Another said she was raped while her infant lay in bed next to her. A third woman reported he attacked her and then broke into her home again two weeks later."
"A grand jury indicted Hubbart on charges of rape, sodomy and attempted rape, accusing him of breaking into the homes of 10 women. He pleaded guilty to some of the charges and was sent to a state hospital as a mentally disordered sex offender.
"
"After his release in 1979, Hubbart moved to the Bay Area and began attacking again. Two years later, he was arrested and later convicted of rape, burglary and other crimes. He spent nearly eight years behind bars. In all, court documents show, Hubbart admitted to at least 44 sexual assaults over 18 years."
"Claremont is a city on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County, California, United States, 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. It is in the Pomona Valley, at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 34,926, and in 2018 the estimated population was 36,478. Wikipedia".
Hubbart attacked women after he stalked and burglarized their homes being very selective in his choices of victims as JJD also did in the EAR series. He used children as pawns to make the victims comply. He was very much a ritual rapist just as JJD was with certain behaviors connecting the series of sexual assaults. The differences are also present Hubbart was not a trained LE officer and lacked some of the preparation for escape that JJD was so good at performing. JJD was to some extend able to control his sexual deviate behaviors that would make him stand out unlike Hubbart. Hubbart even after being convicted was unable to stop his sexual behaviors and committed more rapes after being released from prison. Hubbart left fingerprints in the homes unlike JJD who never did.
This is a good example of the type of offenders that were out there in the 1970's and 1980's some were caught while JJD remained free because he was a trained LE officer I believe that is why he remained unknown all these years.
