Do you think any physical evidence has been retained in the case, say, Steven's shirt, which have a small chance of having the killer's DNA (even blood) on it? Has any investigator asked that question in the last couple of decades? Just thought of something else. Did the Sac Sheriff's office try to locate the officer who pulled them over? You'd think it would be possible since it was only one jurisdiction (the theater was in Sac Sheriff's area, I'm guessing) or maybe two (the North Kiefer apt. might have been in Sac city PD). Did anyone ask anything of the people in the vehicle about the description of the officer? Also, did anyone ever verify that there *was* something wrong with one of the tail lights on Steven's car? A different line of inquiry: remember Victor Hayes' impact statement when he said he remembered Deangelo in uniform-minus-insignia at the horse riding event where Victor worked in Plumas County during the summers - where a coworker told him Deangelo was a sheriff and, during the ride, Hayes asked him what agency he worked for ("an unusual name - Exeter?, possibly near Visalia" said Hayes.) Hayes thought it was August 1974. Perhaps he was doing the uniform-minus-insignia thing with a fake badge or his real Exeter badge before that. Do we know if he owned a cop-like sedan at the time - or did he have the Exeter cop-car take-home privileges by April 1974 (as 12-26-75 said he eventually did during his Exeter PD employment, but they didn't say when he received that privilege.) Was it an unmarked car or was it a squad car with Exeter markings on it? If it was unmarked, did he ever drive that car to Sacramento? I'd like to know whether it was marked or not. If not marked, is it possible it was the car that pulled over Steven that night - which was a Sunday. UPDATE: 12-26-75 says Exeter PD only had 3 cars so it's doubtful JJD ever took it to Sac. Here's the Youtube link to Hayes' impact statement which starts around 45 minutes in: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxwIoEukIg8
