In many of the known offenders (serial rapist/murders) there were sexual activities that occurred while they were children themselves. There seems to be sexual abuse that would be classified as traumatizing in the backgrounds of many of the known offenders. I in no way accept or have sympathy for the offenders claiming to be victims themselves and therefore have no responsibility for their own crimes but want to understand how to use this to identify future and past offenders.
There are various forms of paraphilia that are almost exclusively to males and involve sexual arousal through deviant or bizarre images or activities. There are repetitive sexual activities as paraphilas that become patterns committed by offenders. It is not uncommon to have multiple paraphilas in an offender but one paraphilas becomes dominant until replaced by another. Common believe in the psychiatric community concludes most psychosexual disorders are a result of an aberrant fantasy fueled by traumatic childhood and adolescent experiences. JJD in my opinion had a rich fantasy everyday life combined with a powerful sex drive that resulted in very unusual behaviors as a teenager. JJD would only be able to satisfy his needs through fantasy until he was a teenager and able replace fantasy with actual activities such as peeping or prowling.

Relatedly, I'd like to know what age JJD was when that bedroom-window prowling incident happened - the incident surrogate family "sister" Judy suspects was him (Man In the Window podcast, Ep. 5. "Bonnie and Joe'.) How young was he? I'd also like to know when he got his first handgun and did his surrogate family "brothers" know much about this. This is knowable - perhaps they'll come forward in the future.

In the old days, there were Phrenologists who believed they could detect criminal predisposition by examing bumps and other abnormalities on the surface of the skull this sounds ridiculous now but what if head trauma was the real reason. We have learned much from the NFL of late regarding head injuries and brain trauma and how behaviors are created after the brain becomes damaged.
Another point I would like to make is the nutrition factor as it related to serial offenders. The brain is also involved in this because of biochemical conditions created imbalance and the like. There have as been studies and more importantly treatment regarding vitamin deficiencies in violent offenders. The part that I see a possible connection in JJD's life is the effects of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) on the brain. JJD was known for eating junk food and was called "junk food Joe" by his co-workers even. During the EAR series and some Cat activity, there is more evidence of eating and drinking high sugar items.

Please do not misunderstand my posts on this thread ...None of this is in any way a defense or excuse for JJD's behaviors or any other offender it is an attempt to understand where the offenders come from.

I wrote on another post may have even been other board about a cop I worked with that would eat candy and other snacks during our shift and even eat ice cream and the like when everyone else would eat common food items for lunch breaks. This cop would ride a mountain bike race on Friday nights then come in and work full shift eating candy and other things all the while. He would actually win the bike races and was in great shape but had something going inside his body that allowed him to eat that junk and not be fat all the while being over 40 years old.
