JJD's factor of victim selection was a direct action of his need to assert power and control over them. JJD also seemed to enjoy the anonymity and most likely the thrill derived by seeking out unsuspecting strangers learning as much as he could about them prior to the actual attack in the form of prowling and entering their homes. The victims have always had to be asking why me? Why did this evil man pick me?

I wrote on another post may have even been other board about a cop I worked with that would eat candy and other snacks during our shift and even eat ice cream and the like when everyone else would eat common food items for lunch breaks. This cop would ride a mountain bike race on Friday nights then come in and work full shift eating candy and other things all the while. He would actually win the bike races and was in great shape but had something going inside his body that allowed him to eat that junk and not be fat all the while being over 40 years old.

Nick: I will never fully grasp the notion that the victims were chosen randomly or that they were simply younger women and couples who were simply easy targets. Hidden and obvious clues were apparent early on that the victims fit a certain profile. Petite dark brown eyed brunettes like Bonnie or young teens who blondes were also consistently victimized. At least in the early Rancho attacks. The great mystery to me is that a vast majority of the surviving victims have not come forward, to offer how this changed their lives or a retrospective of facts the investigators may have missed? We certainly understand and support their decisions or the desire not to get involved because, they would like to keep this in the past.
I hope the question “Why Me” can be answered for every victim because this question is often asked by many victims of violent crimes. In this particular case, all victims are deserving of an intelligent and well reasoned answer.

I can only imagine what victims have endured over the years. The constant fear of the offender returning and sudden fear every time the phone rings. I don't know how normal sleep patterns could possibly ever occur again. JJD actions exhibit an extreme personality disorder pathologically grandiose acting without conscience and behavioral regulation and showing joyful cruelty. Somehow JJD was successful in his deception of family, friends, and coworkers to the extent of never being turned into LE as a possible EAR suspect.
