This will be a work in progress as I go through my notes and recordings. The offender is a convicted rapist connecting cases together by more than one means. I have decided to address the offender as Daniel in order to protect the victims and families not really concerned for the offender since he was convicted but I do not want to identity him since I believe there are more crimes out there that were not connected to him.
Daniel was convicted and served his sentence and was inside prison for more than 20 years. Daniel was not convicted of any murders. I do believe he is similar in his crimes and MO to JJD but he did not escalate to murder although I believe he would have done so had he not been caught (my opinion and LE was not able to locate any direct evidence to support it).
Daniel makes no claims to be innocent and believes he is helping LE by participating in the interview process post-conviction.
Daniel claims to be honest at all times during the interviewing process and I have no way to verify many of the facts he claims other than what he was convicted in a court of law. We can take it as it comes and I am reporting on what I believe to be important.

Daniel was interviewed by myself and a current LE Officer (I can not name) the interview was recorded audio and video with handwritten notes over a nearly 12 hours split into 2-3 hour rounds over several days. The breaks were good for me and partner to digest and formulate his answers and statements to gain insight and for clarification.
I am currently dividing the interview into sections in an effort for me to better understand and hopefully you the reader.
We used conventional LE suspect interviewing techniques and I also engaged Daniel in cognitive interviewing something I would normally only use when interviewing a victim or witness to a crime. I chose this because I wanted to get into his mindset of when he was young and in his peeping tom phases and the like. I really wanted to get into the origins of what mage him tick with very little time spent on the "poor me, it is my mother or Father's fault" but in the critical areas in his life when sex and violence became fused forever. A quick sneak peak I will reveal is Daniel had a good home life and was good at blending all his life much like JJD and his family was completely devastated when he was arrested.

I'd like to know if Daniel committed other crimes - there was an article posted on a different board a while back that said testing rapes kits shows that many criminal types also rape. I can't remember where I saw this. They found one offender's DNA in a rape kit that had also killed. I am going to place writings in categories. I just want to get some things from my thoughts into writing so it may ap[pear random but it is more about what I feel like writing about.
Family- Daniel was the youngest of three children the older two were females. Daniel's parents were married during his entire childhood. Father was in the Air Force and mother was a stay at home mom until Daniel started the 10th grade then she got a job working as a civilian for the Air Force. Daniel claims he had a "normal childhood in regards to his parents." Daniel stated he believes when puberty hit is when he started to have sexual thoughts and more so fantasies of a sexual nature that he claims he figured out were not normal and therefore he never truly told anyone what the daydreams were about. I asked him to tell more about how he figured out what he was thinking was not a normal thing all teenage boys did and he replied: " I did not stand out in any way and I talked very little which allowed me to listen more and no one else was talking about restraining and causing fear when they talked about girls." Daniel stated, "I just knew it was wrong like I said my parents raised me to know right from wrong."
Daniel did admit to peeping/voyeurism and even sexual burglaries at a young age and I'll post on 2 particular incidents on the next one.

Daniel believes his sexual behaviors started out as what he called harmless peeping tom activity involving his neighbors. Daniel's family lived in a neighborhood in Rancho Cordova and many of the neighbors were members of the Air Force assigned to Mather AFB. Daniel had a couple of neighborhood wives he regularly had sexual fantasies about while he was between 5th grade and 8th grade. It was also these same neighbors' homes Daniel started to break into and perform solo sex acts along with looking through all of the victim's private items. Daniel stated with looking only through open windows and doors and then started to have fantasies of sex with the older women. Daniel stated the sex thoughts, in the beginning, were about consensual sex between himself and the women and girls he watched from his family home. The thoughts turned darker and became more about having the women/girl that would normally be "out of his league" as Daniel daydreamed any free time he had leftover both day and night. Daniel felt very distracted by the constant sexual thoughts and he believed it to be normal.

I am right in the middle of actual drama on the use of this material. I went at this with a friend and a current LE officer to gain insight and be able to share it freely. I am in the middle of a disagreement with this person and have to hold off on posting. It should be worked out soon.

Daniel told us about an event when he was in 5th or 6th grade where he and three other friends had been riding bikes on the bike trail near what was known as Cordova Park at the time. It was after dark and while riding BMX bikes on dirt trails the 4 came upon a fenced area but it had open access point that allowed them to enter. The area was some type of Girl Scout overnight camping site and the camp was full of girls and parents. They hide their bikes and began walking around amongst the groups that were in sleeping bags with some tents using the cover of darkness. Daniel and his friends came back several times after and did the same things like the first time hiding and looking at the girls. They were all playing a game of hide-and-seek his words but he admits for him it was sexual in nature. He did not admit to anything other than watching them.
This another example of events helping to shape Daniel in his early sexual development.

Daniel told a story involving a neighbor family who had asked him to feed the family dog while they were away. Daniel stated the family included a boy his age (7th grade) a mom and dad and the sister around 17 years of age. Daniel was very interested in the sister and would go through her panty drawer and actively seek out her soiled underwear in the clothes hamper. Daniel admitted to masturbation and stated this was the first time he began to steal women's underwear as trophies and to be used in his fantasy life that was growing faster than he could contain it.

Daniel engaged in fantasy sexual masturbation using the females he encountered daily in his neighborhood as the subject material. Daniel believed in his mind movies they were all willing participants his use of printed pornography also began in this same time period. I asked him where does a 6th or 7th grader get porno magazines and he replied hidden magazines the dad's of every boy he knew had them including his own father. Daniel did admit the porn material gave him a very unhealthy idea of females and their views on sex.

Daniel was living in Rancho Cordova from June 1976 to the summer of 1986 he was in the 6th grade when his family moved from Southern Califonia. I have researched his family life and I did not find any contacts with LE or any arrests of Daniel or any family members during the 1976-1986 time period. Daniel did not ever speak ill of his mother or father or his two sisters. He seemed very protective of his family and refused to accept even an implied question that suggested they had anything to do with his development into a sexual predator. We did get Daniel to admit he would cry in his bedroom for hours at a time with feelings of guilt for the things he was doing (sexual burglaries, masturbation, stealing of women's underwear) in the 7th and 8th grade with his biggest worry being caught and disappointing his family especially his mother and father. Daniel did say the Girl Scout camp incidents did give him hope he was normal in his sexual behaviors and thoughts since three of his friends seemed interested in doing the same things but he soon saw they lost interest and moved on where he could not. He spoke of a time when they were walking in the pitch black and ended up in the middle of a group of girls in sleeping bags when one of the girls screamed and they had to flee as the adults chased them away. Daniel seemed so excited when he was speaking of this incident the fear he insisted in the girls seemed to be a driving force. Daniel was once again reliving that in his mind movie and it was as if it happened last week, not in 1977-1978.

Since Daniel's early adolescent development overlapped the EAR's Sacramento crimes, and he lived in that very same EAR target area, did you ever ask him about EAR and the public fear of him had any influence on him? If EAR was causing fear, and Daniel was causing fear, did Daniel ever make the connection? He may not have been self-aware enough at that age to make a connection, but it would be interesting to know if he thought about it at all.

If EAR was causing fear, and Daniel was causing fear, did Daniel ever make the connection? We actual choice him for the similarities and EAR connection in many regards. I asked him about EAR and he expressed fear of EAR coming to his house since he did have two older teenage sisters. I almost got the impression he felt EAR was a bad guy and Daniel never was the bad guy in his mind. There was much more I have to post on this topic in particular meaning the connection and thoughts Daniel had on EAR both pre- and post conviction of JJD. Great question! |

Johnnyhands1 got me on the topic of EAR and Daniel. Daniel did state his family also feared EAR and it seems to have effected Daniel more than his sisters. Daniel said he would have what he called "night terrors" where he would hear noises outside his window and his imagination would run wild with someone trying to get inside. Daniel would sometimes seek comfort from his parents during one of his terrors and would be told to go back to bed no one is going to get you and was also told he was too old to be afraid and he needed to knock it off. Daniel felt he was alone and had to learn to deal with the night terrors until they stopped in or around the 10th grade according to him.
