I have interacted with many criminals and I find a large number of them do not consider themselves the bad guy. How can a man who commits serial rape and or assault not consider themselves a bad guy is the real question? I can see many reasons why they have those feelings all of course are false because they are bad guys every one of them. The study of the known serial offenders are so important for future prediction of offenders and catching the remaining offenders who think they have got away and escaped justice.

This part of Daniel's story was very disturbing to me since he was given free rein of the homes of everyday people and these crimes seemed to be undiscovered by the victims themselves.
I am going to skip ahead in Daniel's timeline to the 1990s when he was employed as a service worker, I don't want to say what the exact job was for legal reasons (regarding the liability of the employing company) but it allowed Daniel to be left alone in a home. Daniel would perform a type of service while the homeowners were gone. It needs to be noted Daniel had not been convicted of any crimes at this time and was hired for the job and even bonded so the company had no idea who he really was. During this time alone after the homeowner left Daniel would go through families' things looking at photos searching for female underwear in draws and just a total invasion of the family's privacy. Daniel would look through things to get to know the family and of course the pictures we all have on the walls of our homes. Daniel admitting to masturbation and use of female underwear as an aid along with pictures of the victims he chooses. All of this is happening inside of the victim's home while they are away.
I am very disturbed by this behavior and it did allow me to gain some insight into the mind of the sexually related burglar. They are many more offenders out there that have or are still using this MO of that I am completely certain and some do not cross the line into rape but they are dangerous to the public.

I can tell you this it is very difficult to interview an offender and hear the down and dirty of their criminal deeds and not become angry. Daniel's interview was not the first time I wanted to jump across the tabletop and chock an offender or beat them while telling them how much damage they have done to others' lives. Daniel is not on the same tier as JJD but he is damn close and destroyed peoples feeling of safety and happiness that may never come back.

I know this thread appears to have random thoughts here and there it is how I am choosing to share the information because of how it relates to my current projects. I will try to put everything together in the end and hopefully, it all makes sense. My LE partner is also writing this all up and I will make it available to anyone who wants to read it when it is complete.

One of the things we seem to hear from profilers and LE is a serial rapists will have a hatred for women and that would be the driving force in some of their attacks. I asked Daniel the point blake question do you hate women or females? He responded by saying he had no hatred toward women than men but there were times in his life when he was angry at women for different reasons but it was limited to the individual, not the entire group. I asked him to clarify it and he said well I had relationships that soured and he hated 3 or 4 women in his lifetime but hate was not his driving force it was sex from the victims that he wanted. That is interesting in itself since we are so often told that rape is not about sex. I will be posted much more on this portion of his interview since it has my attention.

My entire reason for interviewing Daniel was me attempting to understand how these types of offenders see the world and themselves inside of it. I think if we use only the known profiles of those who were caught we are missing another segment of offenders. They don't always have to hate women or females nor do they have to openly mentally ill or even drug addicts or had been molested as children. I think the segment that does not have all of the red flag warnings are the ones we need to understand better. I believe JJD was created not born as I also believe Daniel was created and not born a serial rapist. I am seeing events in Daniel and JJD's lives as teenagers (past puberty) when they began exploring the dark side of their sexuality. There are many peeping toms that never cross the line and then there are others who push past it and maybe they stop at sexual burglaries while others push even further over the line and began to enter homes while people are asleep but still don't rape. I think in our modern computer internet age a person maybe able to hold off the cravings to committing rape by using pornography to fill that void. It might explain why JJD was also able to stop killing at least I still see some things (crimes and crime series) after 1980 and even 1986 that could be him.

I asked Daniel about the common denominators or commonalities I suppose that other offenders have such as low self-esteem, anger, fantasy facilitation, and the most important objectification of victims. Daniel of course denied being anything like the others and stated he was no Ed Kemper. That answer was the first time Daniel mentioned any other offender of any type and it seemed to me he was acting as if he was unaware of serial offenders and had no interest in them. It was interesting since he had shown no interest in others crimes up until this point in the interview.

I asked Daniel did he ever during his crime series ever feel guilty or remorse he sat for a while before answering. He said he always had this great overwhelming sadness whenever he had a release (ejaculation) immediately afterward but then the drive would return and that feeling would go away. It seems the drug addict analogy may be correct in this case when he got his fix (sexual assault) it took away the cravings and he might have even felt bad for a brief moment succumbing to his drive but then back on the hunt for more.

The most disturbing thing I learned from Daniel (there were many) is when he was attempting to explain how he felt when he was engaged in the act. Daniel was the most articulate for that matter neither am I but he was attempting to explain how he had a tingling feeling in his chest when he was engaging in his crimes. Daniel started when he was younger in his preteen years when he would act out of meanness to harmless or defenseless animals or other children he would get a huge buzz feeling that he stated was a tingling feeling. I had to ask him to give me an example and he gave me the following. He was not able to put into words what he felt. I can only guess and say it was most likely a dopamine reaction in his brain when he was committing crimes. Daniel said it felt good while he was engaged in the act afterward it would be a big drop and his mood would change to that of guilt or remorse but while he was aroused or on this high nothing stopped him from going through with a sex assault. It sounds to me like he attempting to get that " tingling feeling" back in each of his crimes.

I asked how Daniel how he selected his victims and if it was something he used all the time. Daniel said he would find victims throughout his everyday activities while he was working and while spending time with his family. Daniel said he has a particular look of females that attracted him. Daniel claims to have always had a female companion throughout his life in the form of Girlfriends and two separate wives (He is divorced twice over) and even when he was with them he was always on the lookout. Daniel also said he would in the course of working follow women he encountered since his job involved lots of driving and even being inside homes. Daniel did say he had a strict rule to never act on his impulses with anyone he had been hired to do work in their homes because he believed that would be how he would be caught by LE. Daniel was right on that one and his breaking that rule is one of the reasons he was caught. Daniel did however engage in masturbation and admitted to going through the women's belongings at the homes he was hired to do work in but did not select them as sexual assault victims. I found it very disturbing when he told us he would watch home videos he found in people's homes and some of the videos were homemade sex tapes he would find. The amount of time this man spent in unsuspecting victims' homes going through their personal items was staggering to me.
Daniel would follow women he was drawn to home and then he would watch the home to see who else lived there. Daniel said he would have this unrelenting need to hear the women's voice before he would decide whether or not she would become his victim. The need to find that perfect victim was something Daniel said was at times in his life all he could think about and it affected every aspect of his daily life. He would become highly agitated and angry unable to sleep and eat until he had someone he could stalk and target. The only peace in his mind would come when he was stalking a victim and claimed he was only happy when he was in pursuit of a victim.
