This is a writing reflecting on how JJD changed how people lived and how fear effected childhoods and adults. I spoke to four different people two were adults and two were children during the EAR attacks none were related or friends then or now. All of them were directly effected by EAR/ONS but they were also not any of his official victims.
The first story is from Tim he was in elementary school in 1976 when the East Area Rapist was terrorizing his Rancho Cordova neighborhood. Tim told he how he would lay in his bed in sheer terror at every sound convinced EAR was outside his window.

Tim stated he remembers times when he was so convinced EAR, was coming in his window tonight that he end up sleeping on the floor right next to his parent's bed. Tim's father more than a few times ended up stepping directly on Tim as a finally was able to sleep after night after night without sleep. Tim also from the bits and pieces of info regarding EAR methods decided that if the dawn had come and just enough sunlight started the EAR attack would be foiled and he could finally sleep. Tim said he had heard from the news and newsprint and some parental gossip among themselves how this evil man would have patterns and would attack at certain times of the day. Tim decided from all of this information his family was a prime target. EAR was after teenagers and young women and Tim has two older sisters that fit into that category. The family lives near ground zero of the EAR attacks this was another thing that worried Tim. Tim knew EAR came at night anytime after 10:00 PM and before dawn, he would stop or it was not a night he had planned an attack. Another big thing that was important to Tim was the amount of time between attacks the longer it was between them made Tim thinks the greater chance his family had to be another victim.
