February 16th, 1977 22:30 Hrs a shooting took place. The area that JJD had left victim number #11 car was less than 500 feet from the shooting location. This was a possible starting point for a night of prowling or where he was setting up another escape route. We know the planning was important to JJD and he seemed to almost always have an escape route or sometimes two in place before an attack. It was early in the night so I believe this was a starting point for a night of prowling and not an actual target location. JJD would get himself in place and move yard to yard before the X-ray task force units would begin their shifts. I also believe this is how he avoid the LE units looking for him by being in an area early in the night and waiting until after 0400 hrs. I do not have much doubt this was JJD who shot his pursuer. The shooting scenario is something cops were taught to never jump fences because the suspect can be waiting to shoot you on the other side. JJD would know this and he used it to ambush the man and his father. It was also a 9mm which he had used in the past. The 9mm was not a common round back then and not by LE at all.

Going blindly over a fence to pursue a suspect is a bad scene. We were trained in the academy to not do it just for the very reason you could get shot. JJD would also know it is a good way to stop someone chasing you. The kid might have caught up with him being young. JJD would not want to take that chance. I am certain the shooter was JJD on that night.
