Visalia | October 20th, 1975 10:00 PM
The Visalia Ransacker ransacked and burglarized a residence on Emerald Street.
Rancho Cordova | October 21st, 1975 4:00 AM to 6:30 AM
The EAR-style home-invasion rape was perpetrated by a suspect that matched the EAR’s description.
Visalia | October 21st, 1975 1:30 PM
A prowler, almost certainly the Ransacker, was at Royal Oaks Drive at the front door of a residence that was being stalked by the VR. The homeowner received a threatening call less than an hour later.
So he was active in Visalia on the night of October 20th, then the rape happened in RC a few hours later, then the VR incident in Visalia in mid-afternoon.

So if we assume that the same individual perpetrated all of these incidents we need to account for 6.5 hours of driving time from start to finish in the timeframe. Even if one argues involvement of a private plane there will not be much of a total time savings here. You still have to drive to and from the airport, obtain clearance fot takeoff, pre flight checks, etc. As is so often the case in the VR and EAR series, it makes so much more sense when you view it all through a filter that provides for more than one perpetrator.

The changes in MO (from sexualised burglar to rapist back to burglar) are strange, but it wouldn't have been impossible for an avid driver (like many serial offenders turn out to be) to have driven to Sac and back during this time frame.

It is possible but there are not many if any cases where a known offender de-evolved his MO and returned to a formerly held position even when changing locations. JJD was slick enough as a LE officer to do that very thing but I don't know if his addiction at that time would have been controllable like it seemed to be after the last ONS crime. The ability to move forward and backward in his MO could very well be true in JJD'S case. I did find that Orangevale crime series between 1981-1985 that was very similar to the earlier EAR or even Rancho Cat like.

October 20th 1975 = Monday
It's possible he had to drop in to Sacramento to pick something up and return to Visalia quickly. If that truly is the case, it does provide a great opportunity for him to commit a crime in Sacramento as no one would suspect him.
Traveling a distance, performing a crime, going home quickly and he's completely not suspected. Had he committed this act, it would've given him confidence to do it again.
