So the intruder was caught, and it wasn't Deangelo? Strange how they say the "suspected" intruder was "encountered" but they didn't specifically say he was arrested. Maybe he was cleared?

Thanks for setting me straight on that - from the first article.
I'm a little confused - are both articles about the same incident?
And I'm still not understanding the second article, near the end, when it says, "The intruder 17 year old Kent Wimmer..."
Is he not the intruder? If not, what does he have to do with the story - unless he was a bystander who just got caught up in it? Did they actually "encounter" the intruder, but nothing became of it?
Side question: have you thought about naming the source, as in the name of the newspaper, as you already include the date (I find the date very helpful.)

Maybe the ‘intruder’ left his invoice book?

Here’s to a happy new year everyone! Johnnyhands, I believe that the ‘T’ above the article that you asked about may be the beginning of the name, ‘The Cordova Grapevine’ the small, local Rancho Cordova newspaper. That may explain why the article is so poorly written — perhaps the journalist wasn’t very experienced or well trained. murderinc, thank you for the link to the page that you posted — I really got a lot from it. This may be my favorite one yet! The Redlands cat burglar caught my attention because according to a post by portofleith, a stolen airplane that was found in Visalia with traces of marijuana in it November 1, 1974, around the time of Jennifer Armour’s murder had been stolen from the Redlands airport. For some reason I haven’t been able to stop speculating about that airplane. I don’t think that such shenanigans were uncommon and I know that it could of been anyone — I’m sure there were plenty of people who piloted crop dusters in those areas at the time but it just seems like a Vietnam war vet thing to me. Anyway, I’ve wondered about what other criminal activity JJD may have been involved in and who may have been involved in it with him — I believe that the Rocklin burglary series that jenn posted about was likely him as well as the burglaries on murderinc’s Halley Wing page. On my mind a lot regarding the EAR days, is what he was up to in my old neighborhood. I only recently noticed the places where his sister lived on Ambassador drive and somewhere else near by. The December’77 7-11 incident was in the area. The March 28/29, 1978 home invasion rape may have been him. December ‘78 my home was ransacked and I believe it was him. At some point someone tried to get into my neighbors second story window where two Cordova high school cheerleaders were sleeping. Over the course of the summer of ‘79 I believe that I encountered him creeping around Rossmor bar area on a bicycle — both times in the afternoon — what was he up to? Where was he traveling to or from? It seems that he was spending a lot of time in this area but, oddly, seeming to me to want to keep a lower profile here than usual. Was he prowling in advance of a series he was planning but was interrupted by his shoplifting arrest? I’ve wondered if it was the presence in the area of my dad who was a Sheriff’s deputy? I don’t think so. I wonder what kept the EAR from his full targeting of the area which otherwise was perfect for his purposes. I’m just speculating, but it’s been on my mind for awhile. September 1971 i1.wp.com/prettydeathseller.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/27-sept-71-mysterious-gunman-clipping.jpg?w=413&ssl=1This is in North Highlands but I wonder if it may have been drug related.

You're right, I completely misread it as Wimmer being a neighbor. They are both the same incident first from the Bee and then the Grapevine as steelbike said. So I guess maybe it was the 17 yr old prowling. Maybe JJD is not the Cat after all
