I am sure everyone knows about the portion of Shelby's book that refers to the Early bird Rapist (EBR) and the copy cat Early Morning Rapist (EMR). The EMR was the "son of a local prominent individual" Shelby wrote in his book there was also a polygraph that was administered to the son in which he was though to be deceptive.
The section is in Shelby's "Hunting a psychopath" Chapter 25 on page 128.
There were very few non-Sheriff's Department employees allowed to freely pass in and out of the investigation unit for obvious reasons there were very sensitive materials that might be laid out on a desk or things related to active cases on the walls.
The Sheriff's Department was near to the County Board of supervisors offices and the fact the Sheriff gained or lost revenue to run his department from decisions made by the Board of Supervisors.
The facts above need to be combined.

A county supervisor is certainly a "local prominent individual." How far a walk was it to the investigation unit :-?

A county supervisor is certainly a "local prominent individual." How far a walk was it to the investigation unit :-? Sheriff's Department address is 711 G Street and County Supervisors are 700 H Street. Just for reference the City is a grid the letter streets run East and west while the numbered streets run North and So(More or less) therefore the 700 block of both G and H are at intersection with 7th street. It is a very short walk between the two addresses.

I think EMR (aka EBR copycat) should be looked at for further criminal activity before, during and after the EMR series. As we know it is possible for some (few it would seem) sexual offenders to stop committing sexual assaults but we also know there is the possibility of evolution into murder. I want to see what he was up to while the EBR was committing crimes with an assumption he was in the peeping/prowling and sexual burglary phase of his evolution before advancing to his own sexual assaults. It would seem EMR stopped but we have seen in the past it not being the case and a change of jurisdiction or MO was allowing him to continue, which seems more likely in my opinion.

Nick EMR was obviously the EAR. we've got to disregard anything Shelby's says that's not a fact. the EMR "suspect" was the son of a homicide detective. I spoke with some EXTREMELY close to the Sheriff Dept from that time. Shelby suffers from linkage blindness real bad. The Sheriff thought EBR and EMR were the EAR. I've laid out all the facts here: murderincorp.wordpress.com/2019/11/25/emr/

don't forget shelby claims the reserve officer EMR chased officer EAR on Merlindale drive in 1977. why do you think Shelby burned all the EBR files?

murderinc, besides all the raping, shooting, stabbing, strangling, bludgeoning and such, what else was this guy involved in? What supported his hobbies? His fair wife? What was his social network— he’s not a loner, he’s a social person.
I sense that, more than a lot of such sex pervert weirdos, he was first a criminal. You and jenn have documented some lucrative burglary sprees that I agree could be him. What else?
He arrives back from ‘nam with a new Plymouth Roadrunner and a diamond ring for his babe. No matter what happens in his life he always lands on his feet. He always has a place to stay. He ends up with a house with a three car garage.
I’m wondering if he was part of a ring involved in smuggling and dealing drugs — in large amounts. Such a common activity for criminally inclined Vietnam war vets.
His ‘best man’ (‘Judy’s’ brother I assume) signed up to go to ‘nam a year before JJD did. He went on to drive a truck for Safeway for thirty years. His bro went to ‘nam a year later. They came back and all hell broke loose.

We do know that JJD has a shoplifting conviction, and brother John has a burglary conviction (plus other minor offences). A pair of thieves. JJD's niece does seem to have been involved in drugs, but as a whole, the EAR case seems to contain far more hints (the VR links to fencing stolen goods, the rash of sudden burglaries on JJD's watch in Exeter, the stolen property spotted at JJD's house, and all the actual burglaries) relating to a burglar than a drug dealer. JJD was even head of the anti burglary unit. I think he was like Jon Simonis and made 10x his salary from 'straight' burglaries whenever he needed to.

"I'm thinking that a burglary ring is more likely than a drugs operation, but who knows... "
Hi sammyt, I agree about the burglary ring stuff. My intuition is that it was the EAR who killled the PG&E workers which, if so, would make it likely that he also had been responsible for the Haley Wing murder which I learned about from murderinc's wbsite through a post by griswold. There were two offenders witnessed at that crime.
My wondering about criminal activity involving drugs is mostly speculative. It just strikes me as very possible. Unlike a lot of paraphilic offenders, it doesn't seem to me as though the EAR was otherwise a law abiding type person -- he seems to me to be a criminal who also happened to have parahilic tendencies (and happpened to have managed to become a cop and realize a common fantasy of dedicated criminals). He seems, to me, to enjoy feeling smarter than other people -- would he just leave a chance to make a profit from moving drugs and making money during his rare perioods of sleeep on the table?
What about all the pilots' licences in his and his wife's families? The abillity to fly a small plane would and has been quite handy for moving drugs and that had been the case a lot back then and often involved criminally inclined Vietnam vets flyng the planes. According to a post that I read on the blue board, during a two week lull in the VR series that also was the month that Jennifer Armour was murdered, a small plane was found abandoned at Visalia airport that had been stolen from thee Redlands airport -- the empty plane was found to contain traces of marijuana.
There are loads of indications that the EAR did speed. What we know of the trajectory of the EAR's behaviour over the course of his crime series' is exactly like that of a speed freak. Yes, I believe that he could have gotten away with mantaining a speed habit around his peers in LE. Amphetamine users often binge on junk food -- there are fat speed freaks.
It often feels as though there may have been some conection between the EAR and some of other creepy crawlers around northern CA. Herman Hobbs was a speed freak, Roer Kibbe told a woman who was a prostitute that he wanted to go to a motel and do some speed. Being involved in that scene would have been a good way for such characters to get to know each other.
There was a gentleman who owned a house near where I grew up and near where JJD's sister owned a home who was a multiple tour speciial forces vetran of the Vietnam war who appeared quite incognito but was actually a drug dealer (I only knew for sure about marijuana). The EAR was creeping along the Rossmor bar area near this guy's house -- I've wondered if they were meeting out there for some reason.
It's only a hunch that I have but it's quite strong.

Hey this may come off as a dumb question but was Ritalin a mainstream prescription during the EAR phase? Could Joe have fed his potential speed habit by stealing folks prescriptions?
I share the idea/opinion JJD was a speedfreak. No way he wouldve has a relationship with a dealer during EAR phase, right? A cop doing speed would be too risky for him. That’s what I’m thinking. But breaking into homes at this point is second nature, not even a challenge.

About Ritalin -- I dont think so but there have been a lot of speed drugs around since WWll. For some people with with some brain chemistries it seems to help mental focus and promote calmness as in ritalin's intended effects. The speed then wasn't crystal meth rocket fuel that wreaks havoc nowadays. With what I know about this guy's quirks and tweaker hobbies -- model airplanes and such -- I guess he's a speed guy.
I think that we would have read if he had been taking a significant mount of people's diet pills or whatever. That he was pouring out people's pain meds and mockingly acting as though he had 'chills’ as if from heroin withdrawals is a speed freak thing to do -- they tend to look down on opioid addicts. After all, they're not junkies -- they get out and get stuff done.
The reason I would be thinking about any of this is to try to understand what criminal associations JJD might have had and the sense I have that he had partnerships in some criminal activity. Being involved in criminal drug culture somehow could explain it.
Then, speculation about conspiracy and a speed-freak ninja hit man start making a little sense to me. I hope that the details of what Brian Maggiore was involved in as an MP become known.
I've wondered if the owners if the struggling Maverick airlines had gotten involved in something moveing back and forth between CA and smack-dab on the middle of the 'hippy trail' in their private planes.
I wonder about the murder of Brett Glasby. Didn't he live with an ex cop in Sac? Was tthe cop shady? Why was he an 'ex' cop?
I hope that JJD's truck drivin' Nam vet best man writes a book.

Seems like JJD's sister in law (his brother John's wife) was busted for selling weed to an undercover cop.
She married into the DeAngelo family when she was 16 and John was 19.
I doubt if she was dealing weed without her husband's knowledge, so this shows a family involvement in selling marijuana.
